Carson City Welcomes Your Business

The Business License office is available to assist you in completing your business license application and in obtaining other City required permits. All persons or companies conducting business in Carson City must obtain a business license prior to commencement of such business, whether operating from a fixed location in the City or coming into the City from an outside location.

Definitions of "Business" in Carson City

It is unlawful for any person to engage in or carry on any trade, profession, calling or business in whole or in part within Carson City, or to advertise that person is conducting or carrying on any business specified herein, without first applying for, obtaining and maintaining a license as set forth in this chapter. (CCMC 4.04.010)

"Business" or "doing business" means, except as provided herein, all professions, trades, occupations, and callings carried on for profit and in addition includes labor unions, labor organizations and trade unions; however "business" does not include the rental of three or less residential units.
